Los Angeles and San Francisco have always had their share of rivalry, but these days that face-off is looking a little green around the edges. The two major California cities are battling for the title of "greenest", according to the Los Angeles Times.
Though the Los Angeles green plan covers more total area, San Francisco's plan is more stringent, the newspaper reports. Though city governments can't control many environmental factors such as industrial pollution and gas-guzzler SUVs, they are starting at a major point that they can indeed control: city buildings. These days public buildings are more subject to green scrutiny than those privately built, but that itself is on the cusp of change.
