Senior Communities Use Green Amenities to Entice Residents
May 19, 2008

As ecologically friendly design features continue to become a more attractive part of construction, the developers of retirement communities are increasingly taking notice. As Shea Homes announced the opening of its Victoria Gardens, located in Florida's Victoria Park near DeLand, it made sure to advertise the property as having a 20-30 percent lighter carbon footprint than normal.

The property features solar attic fans, green-fiber recycled insulation, energy-efficient windows and appliances, and motion-sensor-triggered lighting, according to the Orlando Sentinel. Shea says that its focus on smaller green features adds up to a big effect, the newspaper reports.
