Detroit Hotel Emerges from $200M Makeover
Oct 24, 2008

After 24 years with its doors closed, the historic Book Cadillac Detroit is set to experience a renaissance as it reemerges as the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit following a $200 million renovation. Owned by Cleveland, Ohio-based developer The Ferchill Group, the 453-room hotel at 1114 Washington Blvd. is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, having been originally erected in 1924. Now the property is scheduled to make its second debut October 25, showcasing Ferchill's additions, the most notable of them being the 60 condominium residences on the top nine floors of the building. The hotel also features 30,000 square feet of meeting space, a celebrity chef restaurant, an upscale coffeehouse and Spa19 24Grille, a spa and eatery that will open in an 8,000-square-foot ground-level retail space in November. Ferchill and local officials anticipate the hotel will help spur interest and additional investment in Detroit.
