Sperry Van Ness Expands into Washington, D.C., Hires Sims as Managing Director

Sperry Van Ness has expanded its presence in the Washington, D.C. market by aligning with Michael Sims, who will now serve as managing director for Sperry Van Ness/Advisory Real Estate Services L.L.C. The new office is located at 1250 Connecticut Avenue. The addition of Sperry Van Ness/Advisory Real Estate Services is part of the firm’s national expansion program, which has grown from nine markets to more than 150 markets in approximately five years. Kristine Gibson, director of organizational development for Sperry Van Ness, is responsible for the company’s growth in Washington, D.C., while Matthew Fitch, regional director for Sperry Van Ness, oversees the region’s team of advisors. Sims specializes in the sale of office, retail and multifamily real estate in the Washington, D.C. With more than 20 years of commercial real estate experience, Sims has secured more than 200 transactions valued at more than $200 million. Prior to joining Sperry Van Ness, he served as a senior associate with Marcus & Millichap REIBC.

Construction of The Yards, a 5.5 million-square-foot redevelopment endeavor in southeast Washington, D.C., by Forest City Washington, is in the works, and the company has just opened The Yards Pavilion (pictured) to give a peak at what is to come when the first phase of the project delivers late next year. An outdoor marketing gallery, The Yards Pavilion features exhibit panels and kiosks detailing the multi-faceted $1.7 billion project, the first structure of which will debut late next year as the 170-unit Foundry Lofts apartment building.
