The Please Touch Museum, currently occupying 11,000 square feet at 210 N. 21st St., will make its debut at its new location on October 18, officials of the Philadelphia arts facility just announced. The museum's new 38,000-square-foot digs will be in Fairmount Park at historic Memorial Hall, which is being converted at a cost of $88 million. Developed in 1876 as the Fine Arts Gallery for the city's Centennial Exhibition, the architecturally significant structure come full circle; since 1876, it has been the address of the original Philadelphia Museum of Art, a community recreation center, the office of the Fairmount Park Commission, and the Philadelphia Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit. Construction activity will add a 9,000-square-foot space to the property to serve as exhibition space for the celebrated 84-year-old Dentzel Carousel.
