Delaware's only pediatric hospital is planning a facelift that will run between $170 and $200 million in costs. Its centerpiece will be a new building to be constructed next to the current hospital; that facility will provide private rooms for approximately 200 patients.
Groundbreaking is anticipated for next year and the facility is expected to open in 2012. The two beds will be connected by a sweeping glass atrium, according to The News Journal, which reports that the renovation and expansion represents a much-needed upgrade for the hospital and its thousands of patients from Delaware, southern New Jersey, and southeastern Pennsylvania.
