Report: Baltimore-Washington Area Set to Weather Any CRE Storm

The Baltimore-Washington area is strong enough to weather a downturn in commercial real estate, according to a joint report released yesterday by Johns Hopkins University's real estate department and a local chapter of the Appraisal Institute. According to the report, the presence of federal government jobs and top universities in the region will keep it more solid than much of the rest of the U.S. during tough times.

The report also says that federal base realignment, which is expected to draw tens of thousands of both military and civil workers to the area, will also help keep the local commercial real estate market strong. In addition, it said job growth has remained apace during the last few years.
