New Jersey-based Hill International has been awarded a contract by Sorouh Real Estate PJSC of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to handle project management for Gateway Towers 3 through 8 at the firm's Shams Abu Dhabi development.

The four-year contract will be worth about $35 million to Hill. The total cost to build the six mixed-use towers, which will encompass about 11.8 million square feet, is expected to be about $1.6 billion, and construction is scheduled to be completed by May 2012. Overall, the Shams Abu Dhabi development will include residential, office, hotel, retail, entertainment and parking facilities, including the 74-story residential/commercial Sky Tower, which on completion will be Abu Dhabi’s tallest building.

In addition to its role in the six towers, Hill is providing project management for Tameer Towers, a mixed-use waterfront development within Shams Abu Dhabi, and is also providing overall program management to Sorouh during design and construction of Shams Abu Dhabi.

As CPN reported earlier this year, major real estate projects are proliferating in the UAE. For example, Ajman, in size the smallest of the emirates, is under way on Al Zorah, a $59 billion self-contained residential, business and leisure community totaling more than 2,900 acres. In another project, Hollywood powerhouse MGM and Sorouh partnered to begin development of a project that will probably include hotels, retail and movie theaters, and perhaps one or more live entertainment theaters.

With 2,000 employees in 70 offices worldwide, Hill International was recently ranked by Engineering News-Record magazine recently as the 11th-largest construction management firm in the United States.
