Denver's Fontius Building Beginning to Show True Beauty

The Fontius building has stood sentinel at the corner of Welton and 16th streets in downtown Denver for the better part of a century, and has seen times go from gold to glum. Last year, however, Shames-Makovsky gave the landmark a new lease on life by purchasing it as part of a revival along the 16th Street Mall.

Slated for completion in 2009, work on the building includes $1 million spent on installing new energy-efficient windows and restoring a terra-cotta exterior on the upper floors, which entailed hiring an artist to hand-mold nine tons of clay
