Sperry Van Ness International will kick off the new year with a new president, now that the real estate brokerage firm's board of directors has voted unanimously to push COO Kevin Maggiacomo up the ladder to the new position.

Maggiacomo (pictured) will take on responsibility for the Irvine, Calif.-headquartered company's day-to-day operation and execution of its vision, which CEO Mark Van Ness had been supervising.

A player in the real estate industry for approximately 15 years, Maggiacomo has been a leading force at Sperry Van Ness for quite some time. Having joined the organization eight years ago, he has since served in roles ranging from regional director to executive vice president. Sperry Van Ness officials credit Maggiacomo as a key figure in the expeditious growth of the company's presence from just seven U.S. cities in 2001 to well over 150 today.

Prior to coming aboard Sperry Van Ness, Maggiacomo served as an advisor for telecommunications real estate advisory concern RTE Group Inc.; a member of commercial real estate information company CoStar Group's sales team; and a corporate real estate services provider with real estate services firm CRESA Partners.

Maggiacomo is jumping into his new spot at the top of the masthead during what has become the most challenging real estate market of the decade. However, he is undeterred by the currently frosty climate, noting in a prepared statement that he is "confident that this company and its advisors will continue to thrive as we navigate through this economic downturn."

Established in 1987, Sperry Van Ness offers clients brokerage, consultation, asset management, property management, leasing, marketing and auction services. The firm operates in the office, multi-family, retail, industrial, self-storage and hospitality sectors.
