The Kalispel Tribal Economic Authority has chosen Marlton, N.J.-based Hill International to serve as construction manager on the $180 million first phase of the $270 million Northern Quest Resort & Casino expansion project in the Spokane, Wash., area.

Located five minutes from Spokane International Airport in the suburban city of Airway Heights, Northern Quest first debuted nearly eight years ago. "When we opened in December 2000, it was always our intent to build a destination resort and everything that is included in that," a spokesperson for the Kalispel Tribe of Indians told CPN today. Hill international will provide both construction and program management services on the first step of the expansion under a two-year contract valued at as much as $2 million. Phase I will encompass the construction of a 10-story hotel with 300 guestrooms, a 50,000-square-foot addition to the property's existing casino, retail and meeting space, as well as entertainment venues and a 10,000 square-foot spa. A multi-story parking facility is also planned.

Hill expects to wrap up construction activity under its contract in December of 2009. Future phases will bring more hotel rooms, casino space and retail offerings to the property. Kalispel has not yet set a start date for development of the remaining segments of the estimated five-year master-plan, nor has it selected a construction manager for those activities. Hill could be considered for future contracts on the project. "Our approach to business is to establish solid, long-term relationships," the spokesperson said.

Hill, established in 1976, is the largest independent construction management firm in the United States and the largest construction claims firm in the world. The company has been busy at home and abroad this year, having won construction management contracts for the $17 million Museum of the City of New York modernization project and the $90 million Sakanela mixed-use development in Tbilisi, Georgia, as well as a contract extension for the $681 million Etihad Towers project in Abu Dhabi. Company stock opened today at $14.56.
