REITs May be the Right Move

Some experts are saying real estate investment trusts may be an investor's best bet in the current market, particularly given that REITs themselves have taken a recent hit and may be a better buy than in years past. According to an article in the San Jose Mercury News, REITs are averaging sales prices of 20 percent less than their net asset values -- an indicator that may be negative to some, but not to the experts.

REITs also add diversity to an investor's portfolio, the article maintains. Moreover, REITs have posted annual returns that are comparable to stocks over the past 35 years, and, the article says, adding them to an investment portfolio can reduce the risk of a large value decline over any given year.
