Cutting Principal on Loans Bad Idea: Lenders

According to The Wall Street Journal today, the part of the legislation to offer relief to distressed home-owners, passed by the House yesterday, that would encourage principal reduction, is not a big hit with lenders. The measure would have the Federal Housing Administration pay off the current loan and issue the borrower a new FHA-backed mortgage at lower monthly payments.
