Vendors showcased their green wares at “The Ultimate Green Office" exhibit at the first conference of the National Association for Industrial and Office Properties. The conference, held in Arizona , was called DevelopGreen: Sustainable Solutions for Commercial Real Estate.
Almost 400 commercial developers from Canada and the United States attended. The 2-day event gave the developers a first-hand look at the latest energy efficient systems, and it provided the most up-to-date information regarding sustainable development and best practices in the industry.
Thomas Bisacquino, president of the NAIOP told CPN, “Green office technologies, materials and systems can have a tremendous positive effect on a building’s overall impact on the environment, the inside air quality and therefore health and productivity of those who work there, and also on the tenant’s bottom-line through cost savings related to energy efficiencies. For example, according to Swinerton Builders, the contractors who developed and built the exhibit specifically for the conference, underfloor air-delivery systems can typically reduce energy costs by up to 50 percent.
The green office exhibit showcased various new levels and interior elements in a 10 by 20 foot model office space, featuring Jessup, Maryland-based Tate’s Building Technology for the access floor system, a high recycle-and-post-consumer-content carpet-tile system from La Grange, Georgia ’s InterfaceFLOR RePrise Collection, and a demountable architectural wall system called Altos from Teknion, headquartered in Toronto, Canada .
Added Bisacquino, “Plans are still in the works for when and where the exhibit will be shown next, and it will most likely continue to evolve, based on the various locations and the partners involved.”
