Downtown Fort Myers, Fla., is undergoing a renaissance and Acquest Realty Advisors Inc. will play a big role in the endeavor, now that the city council has selected the Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based company to spearhead the development of a waterfront mixed-use project.

Working with city officials and a redevelopment team, Acquest will take on the responsibility for conceiving and bringing to fruition a project that will transform a five-acre city-owned parcel into a coveted destination. Fronting The Caloosahatchee River, the designated site is neighbored by the Fort Myers Yacht Basin, Centennial Park and the Harborside Event Center, which will be expanded as part of the development effort. The project will encompass a companion event center headquarters hotel, mixed-use entertainment offerings and public parking accommodations. Additional details are still in the works, but the project, envisioned as the crown jewel of Downtown Fort Myers' revival, will be designed to correspond with the architectural tone of the Downtown area's overall redevelopment.

Acquest's development team includes the architectural firms of HOK Venue and Parker Mudgett Smith, as well as retail developer Boorn Partners. The company beat out three other bidders for the waterfront project: Benderson Properties Inc., HFAH Management Co., which acted on behalf of Fort Myers Riverfront L.L.C., and the Stoneburner Cos. City officials cited relevant design skills and a portfolio of similar urban redevelopment undertakings as reasons why Acquest prevailed in the competition.

Acquest, established in 1980, is a provider of real estate services to pension funds, as well as corporate, institutional and public sector investors. The company has a long history as a development expert specializing in public-private partnership projects.
